Mirissa whale boats in August - did we miss the whole season?
Partner only cares about blue whales. We land 19 Aug. Every blog says Mirissa Nov-Apr. Is that actually shut or just "less good"? Would we have to go all the way to Trinco?

Whales follow the monsoons. Mirissa is the Nov-Apr coast. May-Sep the boats that actually run are out of Trincomalee. August is still in that window, people call June-August peak. Mirissa operators often tie up because the sea is rough, not because whales vanished.
Did Trinco in July, 3-8 boats not a circus. Saw blows, one blue. Left 6am, back before lunch. Pigeon Island the next day.
Trinco trips commonly quoted about USD 35-60 pp, Mirissa peak more like 50-80. Book a known operator, not the guy at the hotel door. Those are street numbers, not a government price list.
