The National Railway Museum in Kadugannawa is a fantastic, highly underrated stop, especially if you love engineering or history. It is generally open every day from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
The entrance ticket is very cheap, usually around 500 LKR for foreign tourists. The museum houses an incredible collection of antique steam locomotives, vintage carriages, and ancient signaling equipment from the British colonial era.
Because it is located right next to the Kadugannawa railway station, it is incredibly easy to visit if you are taking the train from Colombo up to Kandy, or if you are simply driving past the famous mountain pass.
