Parents are Jain, we are in Kandy through Poya - is there an actual South Indian place still serving or is it hoppers and hope
Need breakfast and one proper meal a day that is not hidden garlic and potato. Happy to tuk-tuk away from the lake. Thursday is Nikini and I assume the city gets more Buddhist-veg, which is fine, but Jain is pickier. Flying back to Chennai Sunday.

South Indian vegetarian is the easy win in this town - dosai, idli, vadai, sambar, curd rice. Ask no onion no garlic and no potato separately. A lot of places can do the first and will blink at the second. For Poya Thursday, that is actually in your favour. I would not rely on a lake-view tourist menu for Jain; go into town at lunch, not at 9pm after the parade.
We ate South Indian three times, told them Jain-ish, got it right twice. Guesthouse breakfast (fruit, bread, omelette skipped) filled the gaps. Carry dry snacks for the standing-night.
Coconut, rice, dhal, green beans, papaya, banana. I can do that every morning if you say it the night before.

TukTuk or tour drivers take you to "gem museums" or "government-certified" gem shops. They receive huge commissions (up to 40%) on anything you buy. Prices are inflated 3-10x the actual value.
Men approach tourists near Temple of the Tooth offering to be guides. After the tour, they demand large "donations" or guide fees (5000-10000 LKR).
