Pigeon Island in Matara not to be confused with the famous snorkeling park in Trincomalee is a very small picturesque rocky outcrop located just off the main beach.

It houses a small peaceful Buddhist temple. It is absolutely worth the short walk across the bridge especially at sunset as it offers a brilliant quiet view looking back at the Matara coastline.

You do not actually need a boat to reach it. There is a beautifully constructed modern suspension bridge connecting the mainland directly to the island making it incredibly accessible for a quick walk.
