Police are lifting cones on Dalada - allowed to walk the empty street for photos
Two officers just stacked a pile of red cones by the lake wall and the roadway looks suddenly huge and wet and empty. Partner already has the wide lens out. Is this the official "street is a street" moment or do we get shouted at for stepping off the pavement the minute it looks photogenic.

Cones in a pile are not a press pass. Wait until the officer waves people across or starts walking away. The empty Dalada shot is a Kandy cliché and it is how tourists walk into a jeep that is being let through. Pavement first. No standing in the relic's lane for a symmetry photo.
We stepped out Wednesday the second it looked empty. A van came around Queen's. The photo is not worth an argument with the man who has been on his feet since 4.

TukTuk or tour drivers take you to "gem museums" or "government-certified" gem shops. They receive huge commissions (up to 40%) on anything you buy. Prices are inflated 3-10x the actual value.
Men approach tourists near Temple of the Tooth offering to be guides. After the tour, they demand large "donations" or guide fees (5000-10000 LKR).
