Gangaramaya is way too chaotic during Vesak. Are there any hidden, quiet temples in Colombo where I can sit and meditate peacefully.

Yes. Head to the Asokaramaya Buddhist Temple in Thimbirigasyaya, or the Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya (go early morning). They are highly respected but do not draw the massive tourist crowds of Gangaramaya. For absolute peace, sit by the Seema Malaka shrine on Beira Lake at dawn, before the city wakes up. It is designed specifically for meditation and wellness.

Thank you. Seema Malaka at dawn sounds exactly like what I need.

Seema Malaka is gorgeous, but it still gets busy by 9 AM. Dawn is the only way.

It is not mandatory for tourists, but wearing white during Vesak shows immense respect.

Just sit under the Bodhi tree at any neighborhood temple. No one will bother you.

Avoid the temples near the massive Pandol displays. The speakers blast chanting very loudly.

Also check out the Gotami Viharaya in Borella. The murals there are stunning and it is usually empty.
