When do they start building the giant Vesak Thorana structures

Vesak is coming up on May 1st. Are they already constructing the massive illuminated stories in Colombo and where can I watch the artists work.

The massive wooden and bamboo scaffolding for the Thoranas pandals went up weeks ago in places like Maharagama, Thotalanga, and Pettah. Right now, electricians are wiring thousands of bulbs while artists put the finishing touches on the painted Jataka story panels.

You can visit the community centers near these sites during the day. The local artists are usually very proud to show off the intricate panels before they are hoisted up onto the 60 foot frames.
