Requesting Ayurvedic wellness food at local homestay
7 Answers from travellers
Yes but you must be very specific Traditional Sri Lankan food relies heavily on coconut milk coconut oil and roasted spices If you want a plain detox diet ask them for simple boiled vegetables Kola Kenda herbal porridge and clear broths They are incredibly accommodating but you must request it the day before
No pure cold pressed coconut oil is actually considered highly medicinal in Sri Lankan Ayurveda
The herbal porridge is amazing for digestion They serve it with a tiny piece of jaggery to bite into
Ask them not to use Maldive Fish Umbulakada if you want it to be strictly vegetarian
If you want a strict medical diet it is much easier to just book an actual Ayurvedic retreat center
