Which of these two east coast beaches has better sand and clearer water.

For Trincomalee beaches, Nilaveli is generally considered superior if you want a quiet, pristine, and relaxing atmosphere. The sand is white and the water is incredibly clear. Uppuveli is closer to town and has a busier backpacker and bar scene, making it a bit noisier.

Nilaveli is also the launching point for Pigeon Island snorkeling trips, so staying there makes early morning boat rides much more convenient.
