Trincomalee spearfishing adventure and Uppuveli beach raves

I want to do some offshore freediving and spearfishing in Trincomalee. Are there local boats that will take you to the drop offs, and where do we go in Uppuveli to cook the catch and party afterward.

Spearfishing is highly regulated in Sri Lanka. You cannot spearfish using scuba gear, and it is strictly banned in marine reserves like Pigeon Island. However, you can hire local fishermen to take you to the deeper outer reefs for freediving spearfishing. If you catch a good Spanish Mackerel, take it to Fernandos Bar in Uppuveli. They will BBQ it for you right on the beach while the DJ sets up for the night.

The visibility on the east coast is incredible right now. Just be very cautious of the currents near the Swami Rock drop off if you are diving without a line.
