For early June Trincomalee runs Nilaveli departures at 0600 returning 1100 Sperm whales are dominant near the canyon edge 8 nautical miles offshore Blue whales pass through but less consistent than Mirissa peak in March Success rate this year is tracking 65 percent Swell is moderate 1 to 1 5 meters expect some queasiness Take a tablet the night before
Travel sickness tablets work better taken with a small breakfast not on empty stomach
Choose a small group operator the big party boats tend to chase whales which is unethical and stressful for the animals
