Our tuk tuk driver told us Raja and the Whales is sold out, but his cousin owns a boat and has VIP seats. Is this a common Mirissa scam.

Classic scam. He gets a 50% commission if he brings you to his "cousins" boat, which is usually a tiny, unsafe rust-bucket that chases the whales unethically. Always book your tickets online directly with the reputable companies or through your actual hotel reception.

If a driver says a reputable company is sold out, message them on WhatsApp yourself to check.

These drivers are relentless. Just put your headphones in and ignore them.
