We arrived at the bus station and a tuktuk driver said the hostel we booked burned down last week and offered to take us to his brothers guesthouse

This is a terrible and unfortunately common scam Your hostel did not burn down The driver is lying so he can redirect you to a subpar guesthouse where he receives a massive cash commission for bringing in guests Ignore him completely get in a different tuktuk and insist on being taken to the exact address you booked
