We are partying at Trax in Ahangama. How do we ensure we get a sober tuk tuk driver at 3 AM to get back to our hostel safely.

Do not hail a random tuk-tuk parked directly outside the club exit at 3 AM. Many of those drivers have been awake for 20 hours and some drink while waiting. The absolute safest method is to ask your guesthouse owner the afternoon before to pre-book a trusted driver from their village to pick you up at a specific time.

If you must take a street tuk-tuk, walk 100 meters down the main Galle road and flag a passing one. They are usually more alert.

You can also use the PickMe app. Drivers working for the app are generally held to a higher standard and tracked via GPS.
