We are in Colombo for Vesak weekend. Since all public bars and liquor stores are legally closed, are there any underground parties or hotels that secretly serve alcohol to foreigners.

Do not attempt this. The Vesak alcohol and meat ban is strictly enforced by the government out of deep cultural respect. Even underground parties shut down because police raids during Poya days result in massive fines and loss of liquor licenses. Use this weekend to detox, drink king coconut, and enjoy the beautiful street culture. Partying will resume on Monday.

Understood. We will just enjoy the lanterns and the free food stalls.

Inside a private home is legally fine, just do not be loud or disrespectful to neighbors.

If you are caught drinking publicly on the beach or street during Vesak, you will be arrested.

Even the minibars in 5-star hotel rooms are locked during Vesak.

That is the right attitude! The Dansal (free food stalls) are basically a giant street party of their own.
