Wearing white clothing to visit temples during the Vesak festival

We are in Colombo for Vesak. Is it absolutely mandatory for tourists to wear pure white clothing to visit the temples this weekend.

During this holy weekend, you will see 99% of locals dressed entirely in white. If you wear brightly colored tourist clothes, you will stand out and might be denied entry to the inner shrines.
