We are visiting Kandy next week. What should we wear and what time is the best to witness the daily offerings and drumming ceremonies.

Strict dress codes apply. Both men and women must cover shoulders and knees. White clothing is preferred but not mandatory. You must remove shoes before entering the main complex. The most atmospheric times are during the Puja ceremonies at half past five in the morning, half past nine in the morning, and half past six in the evening when the casket is visible and drummers perform.

Be prepared for crowds especially on weekends. Do not take selfies with your back to the Buddha statues as this is considered highly disrespectful. If you want a quieter experience, explore the world Buddhism museum located in the building behind the main temple.
