What is the strict dress code for attending the Kandy Temple pooja?
2 Answers from travellers
While wearing perfectly pure white is a deeply beautiful cultural tradition signifying spiritual purity for locals it is absolutely not legally mandatory for foreign tourists. However you must strictly heavily unconditionally ensure your shoulders and knees are completely fully covered before approaching the entrance.
The temple guards are incredibly strict. If you arrive wearing tank tops sleeveless shirts or short pants you will instantly be denied entry regardless of having a ticket. Simply pack a wide lightweight shawl to comfortably wrap around yourself before stepping onto the sacred temple grounds.

TukTuk or tour drivers take you to "gem museums" or "government-certified" gem shops. They receive huge commissions (up to 40%) on anything you buy. Prices are inflated 3-10x the actual value.
Men approach tourists near Temple of the Tooth offering to be guides. After the tour, they demand large "donations" or guide fees (5000-10000 LKR).
