When is the official Vesak Poya holiday in 2026?

While May 1 is a Poya day, the official State Vesak Festival for 2026 will be observed on May 30. This decision was made after discussions with the Sangha Sabhas to align with the traditional nakatha. Most large thoranas and lantern displays in Colombo will be at their peak during the weekend of May 30. However, many temples will still hold religious programs on May 1 as it remains a significant spiritual day.
