Where can tourists take authentic cooking classes in Ella?
2 Answers from travellers
Ella has become one of the best places in Sri Lanka for tourist cooking classes thanks to its relaxed pace and many talented host families. Ella Spice Garden, Ravana Kitchen, and Ella Cooking Class with Ruwani are all highly rated options. A typical half day session starts with a visit to a local market to buy fresh ingredients followed by three to four hours of hands on cooking covering anywhere from six to ten dishes. Expect to prepare dhal curry, coconut sambol, chicken or vegetable curry, pol roti flatbread, jackfruit curry, and a sweet dessert like watalappam.
Prices range from around two thousand five hundred to four thousand rupees per person depending on the number of dishes and whether it includes the market visit. Classes typically conclude with everyone sitting down together to eat the full feast which is easily one of the most satisfying meals of your entire trip. Many hosts also provide printed recipe cards so you can recreate the dishes at home.

People outside stations offer to "help" buy tickets but charge large markups. They may buy cheap third-class tickets and sell as more expensive classes.
