Will government hospitals treat tourists for free in an emergency.
3 Answers from travellers
Sri Lanka features an incredible universal healthcare system. If you are rushed to a massive government hospital in a life threatening emergency they will absolutely provide trauma care surgery and stabilize you completely free of charge regardless of your nationality.
Once you are medically stable it is universally highly recommended to instantly transfer to a premium private facility in Colombo where your travel insurance will cover the cost of a comfortable private recovery room.
However government hospitals are vastly overcrowded drastically underfunded and completely lack the private air conditioned rooms and comfortable amenities tourists expect.
