We want to stay at a local homestay in Ginigathhena and hike down to Aberdeen Falls. Is the trail clearly marked, and are there leeches.

The trail down to Aberdeen is mostly concrete steps, but it gets very steep and slippery near the bottom. If you stay with a local family, they will usually walk you to the trailhead. Yes, in the wet season, the leeches are everywhere. Rub soap or Siddhalepa balm on your ankles before heading down.

It is an incredibly beautiful waterfall. Do not swim directly under the main cascade though, the undercurrents are deadly.

Thanks! We asked our homestay host to prepare a hot cup of tea for when we get back.
