A common issue is surfboard rental shops claiming you scratched their board and demanding massive repair fees. Always thoroughly photograph the board from multiple angles before renting it to protect yourself.

Also be incredibly aware of unmetered tuk tuk drivers waiting directly outside popular beach clubs late at night. They will quote wildly inflated flat rates so firmly negotiate the price before getting inside the vehicle.
