There was a tragic incident at Deduru Oya reported on April 16 where several people were swept away. Due to recent rains, many rivers are experiencing high flow rates and sudden surges. We strongly advise tourists to avoid swimming in non designated river areas. If you are planning white water rafting in Kitulgala, only use certified operators who are receiving daily safety briefings on water levels from the irrigation department.
