We are visiting Yala National Park in late May. I heard this is the Palu fruit season when sloth bears are most active. Which entrance gives us the best chance to see them climbing the trees.

Late May to June is indeed the Palu season! The sloth bears go absolutely crazy for the sweet yellow Palu berries. Block 1 via the Palatupana entrance is excellent because of the high density of Palu trees along the main tracks. However, the Katagamuwa entrance is often less crowded with jeeps, giving you a quieter environment to watch them feed without being disturbed.

Make sure to bring a dust mask. May is very dry in Yala, and the jeeps kick up massive clouds of red dust on the main roads.

Ask your jeep driver specifically to look UP into the trees. We almost missed a huge male last year because we were scanning the bushes for leopards instead.
