If your primary goal is seeing massive herds of wild elephants, Udawalawe National Park is definitely better than Yala. The landscape is wide open, making elephant sightings incredibly frequent and almost guaranteed throughout the entire year.

However, if you specifically want to see wild leopards, Yala National Park is world famous for having the highest leopard density. Udawalawe is best for elephants, Yala is best for big cats.
