Best seafood and nightlife inside the 17th Century Dutch Hospital precinct
3 Answers from travellers
The Dutch Hospital is incredible because you are partying inside the oldest building in the Colombo Fort area, built around 1681. After you finish your garlic chili crab, head straight to the courtyard. There is usually live acoustic or jazz music on weekends. For drinks, Taphouse by RNR offers a great atmosphere right against the thick colonial walls.
Make sure to look at the massive teak beams in the ceiling while you are drinking. Those are the original timbers from the 17th century VOC era.
If you want a more club like vibe later in the night, step just outside the precinct walls and head to the rooftop bars overlooking the old hospital.
Scam Watch: colombo
Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
