Is street food safe to eat in Colombo?
I really want to try Isso Vadai at Galle Face Green and Kottu Roti from street vendors. What are the chances of getting severe food poisoning?

I ate street food all over Colombo and Kandy for two weeks and my stomach was completely fine. Just use common sense and avoid raw salads or unpeeled fruits from open stalls.
Go to vendors with long queues of local families—that means the turnover of ingredients is fast and fresh. Kottu Roti is generally safe because it is chopped and fried on a blazing hot metal griddle right in front of you.
Avoid tap water completely, even when rinsing your mouth. For street food, make sure the prawns on the Isso Vadai look crisp and bright, not dull. Stick to hot, freshly prepared dishes and enjoy!
