I need to call family regularly. What's the cheapest and easiest way with a Sri Lankan SIM?

WhatsApp, Signal, or other internet calling apps over data are by far the cheapest and clearest. With a local SIM and decent data package, calls are essentially free. If you need to call a regular phone number, services like Rebtel or similar calling apps can be cheap. Buying international calling cards from shops is possible but usually more expensive and lower quality than internet calls. Most people just use WhatsApp now.
WhatsApp is king here. Almost everyone uses it for voice and video calls. Get a good data package and you'll be fine. Many guesthouses also have WiFi you can use for calls.
