Non Muslims are allowed to visit the Red Mosque outside of prayer times. You must dress modestly and women will be provided with a cloak at the entrance. Photography is generally allowed in the courtyard area but is strictly prohibited inside the main prayer halls to maintain the sanctity of the space. The red and white brick patterns on the exterior are a dream for street photographers.

Try to visit around 10:00 AM between the morning and midday prayers. The light hitting the candy striped towers is fantastic then. Be respectful and always ask before taking close up portraits of worshippers.
