We are carrying camera gear. Is it dangerous to walk through the crowded market streets.

Pettah market is incredibly chaotic and densely packed with thousands of people. While violent crime is virtually nonexistent, opportunistic pickpocketing is definitely a risk in the tightest, most crowded alleys where people bump into each other constantly.

You should absolutely not walk around with your smartphone loosely in your back pocket or your wallet easily accessible. If you are carrying expensive camera gear, keep the strap securely around your neck and hold the camera firmly to your chest in crowds.

Wearing a secure cross body bag worn on your front is the smartest strategy. If you remain vigilant and keep your valuables zipped away safely, walking through Pettah is a fantastic, safe sensory experience.
