I want to capture the red and white patterns without too many crowds. Are there specific visiting hours for non Muslims.

The Red Mosque is most beautiful in the soft morning light around 9:00 AM. Non Muslims are usually permitted to visit between prayer times, specifically from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Please dress modestly and ask for permission before taking close up photos of people. The exterior photography from the busy Pettah streets is always possible and offers a great urban contrast.
