Cinnamon Air east-coast fare USD 150-180 one way - is that sane?
Saw Cinnamon Air "east coast to Colombo" summer offers (USD 150++ / 181++). We have 10 days. Is the seaplane/air-taxi actually 45 minutes and worth blowing the tuk-tuk budget?

The road Colombo-Trinco is a full day once you add traffic. The air taxi is the "save a day" button in east-coast season. Check cinnamonair.com for the current sector, some are land, some sea, and the ++ taxes. Baggage limits are small-aircraft limits, not a Jetstar hold. Official site showed from USD 150++ (early August dates) and USD 181++ (Sep-Oct). Those are airline offers, they expire.
Paid the sale fare, Colombo to Trinco, scenic, about an hour door-to-runway. Worth it for a short trip. Not worth it if you wanted the landscape on the way.

Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
