I am looking for an elevated perspective of the Weligama bay surfers without using a drone. Are there any climbable cliffs or hotel rooftops that allow photographers up.

There are no natural high cliffs directly on the main Weligama stretch. However, you can hike up to the small headland near Taprobane Island on the west side of the bay for a decent angle. The best commercial option is to buy a drink at the rooftop bar of Hangtime Hostel or the Marriott Hotel. They offer the absolute best top-down telephoto views of the entire bay.

The Marriott rooftop has glass panels, so bring a polarizing filter to shoot through the reflections if you are aiming down at the water.

If you go further south to Mirissa, you can climb Parrot Rock for an amazing elevated view of the right-hand point break there.
