Driver says Peradeniya town is open now the tape is down - is the Colombo-side corridor actually moving
We are inland, bags packed, thinking about sleeping closer to the gardens and skipping another lake night. Driver WhatsApps "tape down, I come now, Peradeniya 20 minutes." Tonight's police note said William Gopallawa and Old Peradeniya Road are the Colombo in-and-out. Is that corridor actually a corridor at 9.20 or is he driving us into a still-closed junction.

That is the corridor they want you on. It is the honest way out toward Peradeniya / Colombo, not a promise of 20 minutes from a lake pin. Meet him on Gopallawa or Old Peradeniya Road, not at the hotel door, and do not let him "just cut Dalada because the tape looks down." If the junction is still cones, he waits. You do not sit in a van in a live unwind.
Thursday a Gopallawa pickup was ordinary once we walked to it. The driver who promised the lake door took 50 minutes and then asked us to walk anyway.
William Gopallawa Mawatha and Old Peradeniya Road are named in the 4th-Kumbal alternative-route note. Use the names. 13 official parks exist if you abort and sleep in town.
Scam Watch: colombo
Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
