Heard an engine on Dalada - are the first cars actually allowed back on this street
Something with a motor just growled toward the Clock Tower and half the pavement turned around. We have a bag in a KMC park and a driver who has been "five minutes" since 8.50. Are the first private cars actually being let onto Dalada Veediya or is that a police jeep and we should stop hoping.

One engine is usually a police jeep, an official, or someone who should not be there. Dalada / the lake front can stay cones-and-tape well after the casket is in the gate. Your car in a KMC park is in one of the 13 official parks - it will still be there. Walk to it. Do not stand on Dalada waiting for the all-clear horn.
Last night the first private cars we saw were on the Gopallawa / Old Peradeniya side, not on the lake. The lake got scooters and a confused van much later.
William Gopallawa Mawatha and Old Peradeniya Road are the vehicle corridors they published. If you need a car, that is where you open PickMe, not on the relic's street.

TukTuk or tour drivers take you to "gem museums" or "government-certified" gem shops. They receive huge commissions (up to 40%) on anything you buy. Prices are inflated 3-10x the actual value.
Men approach tourists near Temple of the Tooth offering to be guides. After the tour, they demand large "donations" or guide fees (5000-10000 LKR).
