The massive Eth Pokuna, or Elephant Pond, is an incredible feat of ancient engineering. It is located near the Abhayagiri Stupa complex in Anuradhapura. It is vastly larger than an Olympic swimming pool and was historically used by the thousands of monks living in the area.

Despite its massive size and impressive stone architecture, it is located slightly off the main paved roads, meaning it sees surprisingly few international tourists. You can easily cycle right up to it and admire the brilliant ancient hydrology in total peace.
