Taking general photographs of the beautiful exterior architecture and the colorful statues in the main courtyards of Hindu temples is completely allowed and encouraged.

However, taking photographs directly inside the inner sanctum where the main deity resides is usually strictly prohibited, especially when the priests are conducting active puja ceremonies. Always look for warning signs or ask a priest respectfully before raising your camera.
