Last-minute room, cheap, the pin is on the big road they keep telling cars to use. Reviews say 25 minutes to the temple. Tonight in the rain with no tuk-tuk after 4pm - is that a real walk or a Sri Lankan 25 minutes. Should we go by 3.30 and just sit.

Gopallawa is the correct leftover-hotel zone. From the Peradeniya-road end you are looking at a 20-40 minute walk depending which km you are on, downhill into town, then you join the pedestrian squeeze. Leave the room by 4:15 for a 6:40 start if you want a pavement spot. Tuk-tuks will still do Gopallawa to a drop point until the inner blocks go up - do not wait until 6. Coming home, that road is the one that reopens first.

We walked 28 minutes from a Gopallawa guesthouse last night, fine, a bit of spray. Coming back at 10 we got a tuk-tuk on the bypass for a normal night price.

I can drop you at the edge of the pedestrian zone around 4:30 and pick you on Gopallawa after. I will not wait on Dalada Veediya.
