We want to see leopards but do not want to sit in a jeep for twelve hours. Is half a day enough.

A standard half day safari usually lasts about three to four hours, typically running from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM, or an afternoon slot from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM. While this is plenty of time to see elephants, spotted deer, and massive crocodiles, it severely limits your leopard chances.

Wilpattu is incredibly vast and heavily forested. Leopards are notoriously elusive there. A full day safari allows your tracker to venture deep into the park to the remote villus lakes where the big cats rest, significantly increasing your odds of a successful, intimate sighting.
