Perahera week so we are in a van not a train. I already know the line is dead. I get car-sick. Driver wants the A1. People mention Kadugannawa like it is a character. Tablets, front seat, or we add an extra hour and go the long way.

Kadugannawa is the steep, bendy descent/ascent on the old A1 - hairpins, buses, wet cut-slopes this month. Front seat, window cracked, eyes on the far horizon, no phone. If you are already green, I can pause at a tea shop before the pass. The "long way" is not always gentler.

Tablet 30 minutes before, front, survived. The smell of diesel buses on the climb was the actual trigger.

Ginger, small snack, do not read. If NBRO is amber on a side road, stay on the main A1 anyway.
