June is the peak of the season and while the Main Point can be challenging, there are plenty of spots like Baby Point or Whiskey Point that are perfect for beginners. The water is warm and the waves at these breaks are long and gentle. Multiple surf schools operate right on the beach and offer lessons with board rentals. It is a very friendly community for people just starting out.
