While the main stretch of Hikkaduwa is famous for heavy surf breaks the southern end of the bay features a massive highly protected coral sanctuary. This specific area creates a giant incredibly calm lagoon.
The water behind the reef is perfectly flat shallow and completely safe for toddlers to splash around in. It is essentially a warm saltwater swimming pool.
As an added bonus giant wild sea turtles frequently swim right up to the shoreline in this calm section which is an absolutely magical experience for young children to see safely from the sand.

Restaurants without visible prices. Bill arrives with inflated charges (500 LKR coconut becomes 1500 LKR). "Service charges" added without disclosure.
