Eating pre cut fruit from street vendors is generally considered the biggest risk for getting travelers diarrhea in Sri Lanka. While the mangoes and pineapples themselves are delicious and perfectly safe, the street vendors frequently wash the fruit and their cutting knives using unfiltered tap water. Sitting out in the hot sun also encourages bacteria. To be totally safe, you should only buy whole, unpeeled fruits from the market and peel them yourself back at your hotel.
