Is Pigeon Island National Park too crowded for snorkeling?
I am planning a trip to Trincomalee. I heard there are too many boats at Pigeon Island. Is it still worth going to see blacktip reef sharks.

Pigeon Island is still the best place in Sri Lanka for shallow reef snorkeling. While it does get busy between ten and two, if you hire a boat to take you at eight in the morning, you will have a much better experience. The blacktip reef sharks are very common in the shallow areas and are harmless to humans. Just remember that it is a protected area and touching the coral is strictly forbidden.
Make sure to bring your own high quality mask if possible as the rental gear on the beach varies in quality. The entrance fee for foreigners is around ten dollars plus the boat hire. If it is too crowded, Nilaveli beach also has some decent spots further north.
