Stage 1 is fully hikeable again. Volunteers and the Pekoe Trail Organization completed the clearance of multiple landslides earlier this year. It is now under Green status. The path through the Hanthana range is well marked but I still recommend using a GPS app. The pine forests and tea estates are particularly lush after the recent rains. Make sure to carry enough water as there are few shops until you reach Galaha.

Wear leech socks if you are hiking early in the morning as the trail stays damp. It is a beautiful twelve kilometer segment that is very safe for solo travelers.
