I am a solo female traveler. Is it safe to hike Ella Rock alone at 4:30 AM to catch the sunrise.

In terms of violent crime, it is very safe. However, the path turning off the railway tracks into the rubber tree forest is incredibly hard to find in pitch black darkness without a guide. Also, wild boars and stray dogs are active at that hour. It is highly recommended to either hire a local guide through your guesthouse for 2000 LKR or team up with other backpackers from a hostel.

Make sure your headlamp has fresh batteries. A phone flashlight is not strong enough.
