We are visiting in July. Are there any safe, calm beaches for toddlers during the monsoon.

During the southwest monsoon from May to October the ocean across the entire southern coast becomes incredibly rough and highly dangerous for swimming completely washing out many open beaches.

However deeply protected bays like the Wijaya Beach lagoon or the coral sanctuary in Hikkaduwa remain perfectly flat and completely safe for toddlers as the massive reefs block the heavy swells entirely.

If you want guaranteed calm flat water during July the absolute best strategy is to travel to the East Coast instead to places like Passikudah where the ocean is perfectly serene and safe for babies during those specific months.
