The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) issued a Level 2 landslide warning for Nuwara Eliya and Badulla districts yesterday. While the main Colombo-Badulla train is currently running slowly, many minor hiking trails (like sections of the Pekoe Trail) are extremely slippery and prone to mudslides. Stick strictly to paved roads and guided, popular paths until the rains subside.

Yes, the waterfalls are bursting and the mist rolling over the tea fields is incredibly moody and beautiful.

Check the local news app Ada Derana. They post immediate updates if a road or train line is blocked by fallen trees.

I live in Hatton. It has been pouring non-stop. Do not attempt hikes like Adam’s Peak at night right now, it is freezing and dangerous.
