Wilpattu is a vastly superior experience if you hate massive jeep crowds. While Yala technically has a higher density of leopards, Wilpattu is incredibly peaceful, featuring beautiful natural lakes called villus where leopards often come to drink.

Because Wilpattu is so heavily forested, spotting the animals requires more patience, making a full day safari highly recommended. A sighting here is often intimate and quiet, unlike the chaotic traffic jams in Yala.
